We got married back in September 2012. Big K was roughly 15 months old when we got married. While wedding planning the one major thing to plan was where to go on honeymoon. We had always wanted to go on safari and do all out luxury however we didn’t want to leave Big K behind. That is when we decided on Gran Canaria for our familymoon (honeymoon with kids)
Our Familymoon to Gran Canaria
We had booked our flights and our hotel separate which saved us a lot of money (over £500 i think). We booked our hotel with Dunas Suites & Villas Resort where we had booked their villas. This was 1 bedroom, a living room and a bathroom. There was also a small kitchenette in the living room which came in very handy with a toddler about.
As we were all inclusive we really enjoyed eating as much food as we wanted…and so did Big K. As he was dairy intolerant the staff were more than happy to cook special meals for him even though the restaurant was a buffet restaurant.
During the day we would go out and explore and then late afternoon come back from some snacks by the pool while Nick would go in the pool and play water polo with the other holiday makers. We also went in the pool with Big K and he had fun splashing about. We had a hire car which meant we could easily head out for a couple of hours each day and explore.
Exploring Gran Canaria with Kids
During our holiday we visited Palmitos Park, Puerto Rico, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and as we were staying in Maspalomas we walked there a number of times along the beach.
We really enjoyed our time in Gran Canaria and exploring the island with Big K. The hotel was really nice and as there were a number of pools and places to eat we never really found it crowded or noisy. You could hear the evening entertainment but in the villa we stayed in, it was far enough away that it didn’t disturb us.
I don’t think however that we would go back to Gran Canaria again, as I think Tenerife has more places to visit with kids. We also like to explore different places and only go back to the same place more than once if we love the place or if we have friends in the area.
Have you been to Gran Canaria before? What did you think?
