We visited Flamingo Land on a recent visit to York in 2014 when the Tour de France was on. We left York after the cyclists went through the city centre and headed towards Flamingo Land. It wasn’t too long a drive so we would definitely recommend using York as a base if you wanted to explore York and the surrounding areas.
Flamingo Land has pretty much everything that you might want for a day out with your kids. It is a theme park, zoo and resort that is set in 375 acres of beautiful countryside.

Food & Drinks
We arrived roughly lunch time so first port of call was somewhere for lunch. We went to the Metropolis Bar and Grill. The portions were huge. If we had known how big the portions were we would have shared food between us. Prices were reasonable for the portion size and food tasted really nice. The place was also clean and tidy. However if you didn’t want to go to the restaurant there are also a great selection of cafes, and bars that have food available for you to purchase.
There are a great selection of rides throughout the park which are suitable for all ages. Our son enjoyed the smaller toddler friendly rides including the tea pots, while the “big kids” enjoyed going on the bigger rides. One of the kids rides our son went on about 4 times. He loved it though so we weren’t fussed.
The great thing about Flamingo Land is that there is also a zoo part, so if you didn’t want to go on the rides you can head over to the zoo and check out the animals. Which is great for us as our son and I love animals so we enjoyed the zoo part the best!
We bought our tickets online before we arrived but ticket prices do vary depending on the season. So it is best to check out the Flamingo Land website for up to date prices for the dates you are going.
Overall it was a great afternoon out and we could have spent a lot longer there (we didn’t get to do everything we wanted) but we had to drive back to Scotland so we had to set off early.
