The Hotels We Stayed In On Our Danube Cycling Holiday

There are many hotels along the Danube. If booking through a tour operator then you will get hotels booked for you. We found most hotels did not have air conditioning unless you paid extra for an upgraded room. This however normally would not be possible through a tour operator as they would have set prices, which would be based on a standard room. Although that been said Austria and Germany are only hot a few months of the year and so A/C is not  always standard in hotels from previous visits to the countries.

The Hotels We Stayed In On Our Danube Cycling Holiday

Passau Hotel

Passau – IBB Passau City Centre

IBB Passau is located right near to the main train station in Passau. Which was very handy as we arrived from Vienna by train into the city. It was a lovely hotel and our room was spacious and comfy with everything we needed. We found the staff were very helpful and their bike room was huge!

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet with some hot food available
Room – 2 beds and a z bed
Dinner – We ate out at HendlHouseHotel
Facilities – Indoor pool, restaurant, bar and more.

Schlogen Hotel

Schlogen – Donauschlinge

Situated right on the Schlogen bend this large hotel is in a stunning location. Eating dinner outside with stunning views definitely makes this a top hotel. It also has a large bike room with lots of electricity points (great if you have an E-Bike)

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet with some hot food available
Room – Large room with 2 beds. No A/C though in our room.
Dinner – We ate in the hotel restaurant.
Facilities – Indoor pool, spa and wellness centre, outdoor pool, restaurant, bar and more.

Linz Hotel

Linz – Marriott Courtyard

This is a lovely hotel, very modern looking. However, it is situated away from the city centre, although I have seen mentioned it is a 15 minute walk away. Im not convinced though! We took a taxi out in the evening and back. This cost us 8 euros each way.

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet with some hot food available
Room – 1 Double Room and 1 Twin Room with interconnecting door
Dinner – We ate out at Promenaden Hof
Facilities – Fitness centre, restaurant, bar and more.

Enns Hotel

Enns – Zum Romer

This 3 star hotel a little out of town, it is roughly a 15 minute walk from the old town section. Rooms were nice, maybe a little basic but they did the job. Rooms did not have A/C, but we put shutters down and left windows open. One of our rooms had a balcony which came in handy for drying some clothes.

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet. We found it very basic. They also had no soya milk but luckily we managed to get some in a local shop. There was no fridge in the room to store it in though.
Room – 2 Double Rooms with no A/C
Dinner – We ate out at Goldenen Schiff which is located in the old town
Facilities – Packed lunches available on request, vending machine with drinks.

Grein Hotel

Grein – Aumuhle

3.7 miles away from Grein we had an organised transfer with our bikes to the hotel. This is a lovely wellness hotel which has a beautiful setting. Our room was huge and being picky the only annoying thing was having the toilet separate from the shower and sink.

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet with some hot food available
Room – 1 Double Bed and 2 single beds with no A/C
Dinner – We ate out at the hotel. Very good food and good portions.
Facilities – Sauna, restaurant, bar and more.

Melk Hotel

Melk – Zur Post

Great location right in the town square, it is a lovely hotel with its own restaurant. It took us about 10-15 minutes to walk up to the Abbey. However, that was at a 2 year olds pace. I expect you would walk A LOT quicker.

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet with some hot food available
Room – 1 double bed and a sofa bed with no A/C
Dinner – We ate in the hotel restaurant.
Facilities – Restaurant, bar, packed lunches available on request and more.

Krems Hotel

Krems – Arte Hotel

Roughly 15-20 minutes walk from Krems old town this is a very modern hotel. It is near to the university campus but not noisy or anything like that. It was a very comfortable hotel with great staff.

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet with some hot food available
Room – 1 double bed and a sofa bed
Dinner – We ate out at 2Stein one night and Corleone the other night.
Facilities – Fitness centre, restaurant, bar and more.

Vienna Hotel

Vienna – Imperial Riding School

Our Hotel in Vienna was located 5 minutes walked from Belvedere Palace. This hotel is a mix between traditional and contemporary. The room we had needed a bit a TLC but the rooms did their job and the beds were comfy.

Breakfast – Continental breakfast buffet with some hot food available
Room – 2 twin rooms
Dinner – We ate at the hotel restaurant.
Facilities – Indoor pool, fitness centre, restaurant, bar and more.

So there you have it. All the places we stayed in along the way. As we only stayed in hotels 1 night in each location we were not disappointed if the rooms were slightly more basic than others. If however, we were staying longer in each longer than yes maybe we would have been disappointed.
