This is our last post of 2017, so I thought I would take a look back at our year and put all our travels and adventures into one post. Compared to last year (2016), 2017 was full on with travel. Some of these being family holidays and others being business trips. Although, saying that most of our business trips, the boys come with us!
Overall, we went on 7 holidays/business trips and just over 20 family days out (some I haven’t wrote about).
So, from myself and Nick we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Looking Back At 2017
Jan – April
April seen us head to Northumberland with the kids and dogs for our first family holiday of the year. It was a fantastic holiday with plenty of dog and child friendly days out. You can read about our days out from Northumberland below!
May – August
May seen us head out to Italy for the Nove Colli. This is a big bike event in Italy, and we went to watch my dad and Nick take part. The boys loved cheering all the riders on and it was such a great atmosphere.
July was a big business trip to the River Danube. A cycling holiday that was very family friendly. If you have never considered a cycling holiday as a holiday before, then you must check it out.
In August we headed down to the South of England for my cousins wedding. It was a short few days, but well worth it as we hadn’t seen some family members in years.
We also headed to the Isle of Arran on another business trip. Arran is also a wonderful place if you are an outdoorsy family. Lots of outdoor adventures that you can do with your family, or just a relaxing break as a couple (without the kids).
September – December
At the end of September my parents sent us away for a family weekend in Pitlochry for both my and Nick’s birthday. It was a great weekend. I think Scotland has so much to offer for families. While there we went to the Enchanted Forest, which was a great event to go to.
Our last family holiday of the year was to Lake Garda in Italy. Personally, I was surprised with how much there was to do in the area. We will definitively have to go back again as we have not seen everything.
Family Days Out
We didn’t have as many family days out as we had planned this year. I’m hoping 2018 will be a better year for days out for the family. First up was our first hike of the year in Aberfoyle called Fairy Knowe and Doon Hill. It was a great little walk with the family. We also took our dogs along for the walk. For Mother’s day we went to Callander (one of my favourite places) where we did a pram friendly walk to the Falls of Leny.
Over the Easter Weekend we headed to RSPB Loch Leven for a family fun day out. It wasn’t a day out I thought we would all like, but the boys really enjoyed looking at the birds and hunting out clues to get their reward.
If you have never been to Loch Katrine, then it is a must do. We went there for a cycle ride and a walk one day which the whole family (including the grandparents) loved!
While down for my cousins wedding we spent half a day at Peppa Pig World. The boys had an absolute blast. Just wished we could have spent longer there to get our moneys worth.
While in Arran we did several walks that were child friendly. First up was the Kings Cave and Machrie Stone Circles walk. Followed by the Clauchlands and Corriegills walk. Then lastly we walked the Glen Cloy and Fairy Glen walk. It wasn’t our favourite walk during our time in Arran, but it was still a very good walk for kids to do.
Here’s to 2018.
Thank you for visiting the blog this year and I hope you will come back and visit again in 2018 for more family fun, outdoor adventures and lots of family travel tips and advice.
